About the binding process
The bindery in London operates on two floors occupying a production area of about 10,000 square feet. The public library bindery and trade binding lines on the ground floor handles all lending library rebinding and paperback binding as well as cloth and laminated music and drama binding. A partially separated line deals with most trade binding requirements including semi-automated casemaking and foil blocking for short run casebound books and a third independent production area meets the demands of customers needing library books re-sleeved or our servicing and processing only facilities. All skilled and semi-skilled staff employed has in-house training, work under supervision and all orders are processed according to individual sets of 'standing instructions' or specific specifications. These order processing instructions are held on computer files access to which is networked throughout the production binderies.

Upstairs, the academic and craft bindery deals with the demands from all journal binding customers, reference and some local studies material, thesis binding, newspapers and antiquarian book repairs, restoration and paper conservation. Bespoke storage boxes and folders are also designed and made by our craft bookbinders and finishers employed in this bindery. Again all orders are processed under direct supervision and according to individual specifications and instructions held where possible on computerised files networked around the production areas.

Visits and guided tours around the bindery in Acton are freely given and samples available for inspection in our small shop that is open all working hours. Personal callers are welcomed to receive personal advice on any aspect of book binding or repair, deposit theses for binding or to request immediate estimates of likely costs for work to be undertaken. Please ask us if you need dummy bindings or want to commission trials with us of our bookbinding and paper conservation services.
